The Vital Link
The Student Family Support Specialists provide the “Vital Link” in schools as they work with staff, students, families, and community agencies in removing the barriers to education. In addition, they provide direct and indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students’ academic and social success. They also promote a psycho-social environment that fosters academic engagement and achievement.
Environments are conducive to learning and teaching when they have:
- Policies and procedures that produce safe and orderly environments;
- Capacity-building efforts to promote effective practices; and
- Supportive relationships within and between students, families, school staff, and community partners.
